Passing Trailer Previews Rebecca Hall’s Acclaimed Directorial Debut

The trailer for Passing previews Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga starring in an acclaimed drama, which will make its Netflix premiere on November 10.

The trailer for Passing offers a preview of Rebecca Hall’s acclaimed directorial debut. Based on the 1929 novel of the same name by Nella Larsen, the title is a reference to African-Americans with skin color light enough to be perceived or to pass as “white.” In particular, Passing follows two Black women (played by Tessa Thompson and Oscar nominee Ruth Negga), who choose to live on opposite sides of the color line during the height of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s. The cast also includes Alexander Skarsgard, Andre Holland, Bill Camp, Gbenga Akinnagbe, and Antoinette Crowe-Legacy.

Netflix has released the full trailer for Passing, which shows how Irene (Thompson) and Clare (Negga) reconnect. Soon, however, fissures and genuine differences begin to reveal themselves between the two characters. One particularly uncomfortable moment involving Clare’s husband, especially, hints at the tensions ahead. You can check out the trailer below.
