Renovation of Loew’s Jersey Theatre expected to begin next week, with eye on 2025 opening of major concert hall

Renovations to transform the historic Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre in Jersey City into a major concert venue is expected to begin next week, said the founder of the volunteer group that has painstakingly worked on restoring the hall for the past 28 years.

Colin Egan, also the director of the nonprofit Friends of the Loew’s, said his group was told to clear areas in the Journal Square theater so the initial work can get started by Devils Arena Entertainment (DAE), the Newark-based operator of the Prudential Center that entered into an partnership with the city to renovate and operate the space.

DAE officials have said they expect the venue to open in 2025.
