Why Gotham Knights Doesn’t Need Joker

Gotham Knights features Mr. Freeze. Penguin, and Talon, but shouldn’t feature Batman’s arch-nemesis, Joker, due to the Dark Knight’s untimely death.

WB Games Montreal has repeatedly confirmed Batman will not appear in Gotham Knights, but this means Joker doesn’t need to either. Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime and Batman’s rivalry is legendary throughout comics and movies and has appeared in many iterations of the Dark Knight. Despite Joker’s popularity, Gotham’s Rogues Gallery contains many interesting characters that could become a villain as equally enjoyable as Joker.

Joker’s rivalry has changed Batman, through actions like his assault and paralyzation of Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) and his murder of Jason Todd (Red Hood). Additionally, Joker also kidnapped Tim Drake (Robin) on Christmas and held him hostage, and has always harbored a hatred for Dick Grayson (Nightwing). Despite the Joker’s relationships with the Batfamily, his main conflict always focused on Batman. Without the Dark Knight in Gotham, Joker’s presence is no longer required – through hallucinations like in Arkham Knight or otherwise. Gotham Knights should instead focus on different villains that can explore other adventures in Gotham.
